Sankey chart node arrangement

Hello. I'm loving the Sankey charts created with the Charting API.

However, the placement of nodes seems so illogical to me.

I have a chart with an intermediary node in the middle and it is drawn as overlapping with the other connections. Very frustrating.

I have tried fiddling with node padding and iterations to no effect.

Can anyone suggest a fix for this problem? (image attached)
