Translate API from google

Good morning,

I have a few questions on the Translate API from google.

First of all, regarding to the attributions, when post-editing, attribution does not need to be displayed. What we want to know is: Does this statement refer to a document as a whole or to each segment within a document. We might post-edit a document but, what happens when within that document, there are segments not post-edited? When referring to attribution, are those segments within the document considered to be part of the document (so attribution is not needed) or individually (so attribution is needed)?

Secondly, regarding confidentiality, it is very important for us to confirm the extent of the confidentiality terms when using Google translation API. As a translation company, we work with sensitive information from international companies and we have signed several confidential agreements, that is the reason why confidentiality terms are a big concern for us.

At the moment, we work with other translation engines, we are now considering the use of Google translation engine, but before a further approach, we need to solve the above questions.

To answer your questions:

1 - As per the Google Translate API FAQ, if you are post-editing the machine translation, no attribution is required. If in doubt, I recommend erring on the side of providing attribution if you have a page with several translated sections and only some are post-edited. However, if you are using automatic translation as a foundation for a large amount of post-editing work on top, no attribution is needed as per the FAQ.
