Hi Guys,

Good day, I have a question but before that below is the scenario:

To give a background, we are using   Google Translator API  paid services.

Since we are passing sensitive information in the API like emails, account, we would like to know if this services is safe and GDPR compliances. Please check my question below

I have already this link and not too much helpful

https://cloud.google.com/translate/data-usage

https://cloud.google.com/security/gdpr/ - Base on this link,  does it means Google translator API is GDPR compliant but not saving sensitive information  ?

Best Regards

Hi Sergio,

Some of the terms there are indeed a little controversial there. No doubt, Google is a Big Data business entity that earns money accumulating such data as well as providing quantization, classification, etc. services that help better process it. The company is constantly improving their technology by learning how to better process the data that users create and feed into it. Such data is undoubtedly at least temporarily stored somewhere on the company's servers when it comes to getting certain document NMTed. I really doubt, however, that Google will make any additional claims regarding this topic here on this forum other that what is already in the referenced documents as those are legally binding statements that have had to be cleared with multiple legal liability professionals before getting published.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Ilia Shifrin

Hi,

As per the FAQ page linked, the request in its entirety is stored while the text is being translated and a response is being returned and is usually deleted within a couple of days. That being said, any information contained in the requested will be removed as per said process.

Additionally, to address a point brought up by Ilia, the Translation API does not keep the data from your request to improve the processing. Kindly refer to the “Does Google use my data for improving Google Translation support?” question in the FAQ for additional context.

Ali,  we would like you to know that we have recently updated data-use FAQ, which capture the current state of the service.
To answer your question:
1. we are not subject to GDPR for v2, because we are not "storing" data, hence there is no export compliant.
2. We use the term "store" here as for temporary storing/caching with TTL. The content is not designed to be persisted for storage, but for processing. All of them will be TLL'd and subject to automatically deletion.
