We produce both a desktop and web-based tool that uses Google Translate API to assist human translators. The Translate API has been a useful addon to the products.
We can easily adapt these products to allow users to add their own API keys to connect to Google Translate as a paid service. But it takes time and effort to implement and maintain the MT component of our product. It is obviously a desired feature for our users but it would be more worthwhile to us if we could generate some income from the integration to cover our support and maintenance of the integration.
I was wondering if Google has considered:
- API revenue sharing - allowing Translate API integrators to gather some proportion of revenues in the same way the AdSense users gather a portion of revenue.
- API Reseller billing - allowing resellers to sell the API directly to clients from within their products. As in we set a price or get a bulk discount and resell to our clients. The client sees this as us billing them but Google does all the billing and we gather a percentage of revenue.
Are these options under consideration? It would really help us gain a new revenue stream for our products, so I hope some of these are on the cards.
