Hi

I am trying to translate names in Hindi to English.  Please find the result provided by Google in two instances. The first word is same for all three in Hindi.

1. गुलाब चाँद  ==>  rose moon
2. गुलाब चंद   ==> Gulab Chand
3. गुलाब चन्द्रे  ==> Gulab Chandra

The 2nd and 3rd translation is correct as the input texts are names. The word "गुलाब" is transliterated to "Gulab".  This is the expected result.

But I want to understand why google translated "गुलाब" to "rose" in 1st instance. Is it because the translated result "rose moon" is a term that is commonly used in English. ?While in the 2nd and 3rd instance, it figured that translation result of each word  is not used commonly so it provided a transliteration as output.

Is there any way to tell Google that first word should be transliterated.

See my answer in the other thread (https://groups.google.com/g/google-translate-api/c/G8t7dT_VvYI)

You can "induce" this:

It even works if you do it in English:
