A mentor has been assigned to your application. It's a bit self
explanatory :p

I think maybe your application has been assigned by a mentor, which
means your application likely be accepted.

It does mean that your application has been assigned a mentor; this does not necessarily mean your application is likely to be accepted.

Hi, I think all students really appreciate your answers and the work
of the Gsoc team.

My question is how many status an application could have and please
can you explain briefly what does they mean.
At the moment, friends of mine told me they have some status like:
Available for Review, Ranking in Progress, Reviewer Assigned. Any
other one?

There is no much information on the Application Ranking Phase part of
the documentation about it.

Could you provide us?

Thanks very much.

Hi David,

Actually, this documentation was updated yesterday and a note sent to this list, but it may have gotten lost in the shuffle.  Here it is again:

Hi all,

Though this is mentioned in the student guide.Once again I'm mentioning here

  • Once a numeric score has been added to your application, your application's status will be "Ranking in Progress."
  • Once your application has been assigned to a mentor, the status will read "Reviewer Assigned.
  • Otherwise, the application's status will read "Available for Review."
  • It is possible that your application will be marked "Ineligible"
