I've found many questions regarding IRC Channels and how to use it. So
here is a short guide about it.

IRC is similar to instant messaging services like Yahoo Chat, Gtalk
etc., the main difference being that it resists spam and other common
security risks. Commonly used IM services, are built to silently
upload files to users computer and execute them on command without the
actual permission of the user. Needless to say that unlike mailing
list IRC is for instantaneous messaging. Open source project use IRC
for communciation

If you are a Windows user, you can download mIRC here:
http://www.mirc.com/get.html or you can download a firefox add on to
chat here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16 Without
installing the client software you can chat here.
http://www.webchat.freenode.net/

Once you've installed you are connected to the chat server (e.g.
freenode, hispano etc.). All IRC commands begin with / (slash)

--------------------------------
Important Commands
--------------------------------
/help help command.
/list provides a list of all current channels .
/list –min 10 Lists all channels with 10 or more members .
/join #name Command to join the channel #name.
/part #name Command to leave the channel #name .
/quit Exit the IRC session .

Wishing you a successful GSoC ahead
