Just to clarify, I want to become a mentor for the NumFOCUS org in 2025 and I want to contribute to another org's project in 2026 (where I will be a beginner). Is that allowed?

Hence, I wanted to know if I can be a mentor this year and a contributor later.Generally no. You must be a student or a beginner in open source to be part of GSOC. Once you become a mentor you generally won't be considered a beginner. So if you were still a student after being a mentor you could in theory do GSoC but you would not be eligible to be a contributor with the same org you were a mentor with.\- GSoC Admins--

Hello,Just to clarify, I want to become a mentor for the NumFOCUS org in 2025 and I want to contribute to another org's project in 2026 (where I will be a beginner). Is that allowed? You would not be a beginner in 2026 in open source if you are a mentor in 2025. It doesn't matter if you would be a beginner to that org, it's about being a beginner to open source for the eligibility.
