a google search on mag strip reader should turn more than enough information on the subject.
you can start by wikipedia.

there`s an open source porject but i don`t rember it`s name

snippet of code, that can actually help in extracting data from the
magnetic card reader, keeping in mind my working environment is Java.

Hi,

Afaik, j2ee is mostly used to build enterprise web applications information
systems et cetera et cetera. And what you need is some kind of third-party
library/driver or package (if we talk about java).

Ps. J2ee is not a programming language, but java is.

I think you must be having Java API's to develop applications. Make use of those API and develope the application.

Thanks & regards,

I think all you need is a program that communicate with serial port or USB to receive tada from your hardware.
Then, you need the hardwares protocols specification.

You wont read raw magnetic data.

Try MSR206.

Hope to help

well if you know what you expect then you should be able to read it.

the first link /i snet you is one of the most comprehensive ones out there. it explains all you have to know about mag strip cards.

btw you'll need some hardware to actually get the data from the card. checkout  strip snoop : http://stripesnoop.sourceforge.net/devel/index.html . you get the programme  (in C I think) and a guide to build the actual hardware reader, or from where you can buy one (actually they're not that expensive).you need support for serial port (dono if java can achieve that, worst case you can write somthing in C and interface it with java -- JNI : Java Native Interface --).

Kenshin

Folks,

I fail to see how this is on-topic for this list.

Bye,

Completely agreed. I would try searching the web for these answers rather than asking here. This list is meant for discussion about the Google Summer of Code program, not for general help with software development questions.

Cheers,
