Hello everyone,
I am interested in applying for G SoC 2010.I think i have gone through
most of the links mentioning G Soc. I am still in a doubt. Are
students supposed to suggest there own project and apply for it Or
they will apply for the projects that are finally selected by Google
and in which they are interested in and ,also, they can give their own
ideas about project as well ?

Yes, each selected Orgs will have their "Ideas Page" where you can either choose an idea that interests you from the ideas pool, or suggest a new idea. AFAIK, most of the Orgs do accept (listing) new project ideas. But you should take care of the fact that your idea also coincides with a mentor's interest, otherwise there is no use even if the idea is amazing.

Yes. Students can suggest their own ideas as well as work on already given ideas.
Or

Actually its not Google that selects the projects or proposals of student. ( unless you actually apply to google as a mentoring organization)
Google only selects the Open source community.
Now the Open Source Project(community selected by google) publishes its list of ideas.
Students go through the list of ideas as given by the organization and can choose to write their proposals on them
*or* A students can also suggest the organization that, he has this and this kind of idea, and he would like to go ahead and work on it.
Of all the ideas that the Open source Project gets, they select the best of the ideas, and students get to work on them.
