Hi everyone,
I tried this year for gsoc and I had a very good proposal (told by mentor) but due to lack of slot I didnot get selected. I want to participate in open source and earn at the same time, can you please tell me other programes like gsoc I can apply for.

SOCIS is also an alternative but is limited to space science and astronomy and has very few projects. The applications for 2019 are closed, I suppose.

I would encourage you to consider a different approach.  Many people who contribute to open source voluntarily first find (even greater) paid opportunities later.  There’s a variety of reasons for this but one is likely that it shows independent motivation and a desire to learn on the part of the individual.  It looks better on a resume and can be exceptionally educational.

I know this from personal experience and it’s something I take into consideration when I’m reviewing applicants professionally for internships or jobs too.

Take a look at developer Student clubs. You are required to find a problem and solve it by the end of the year (similar to a capstone project). 

The program is currently available in India, Africa, Indonesia. We are just launching it in Canada, Singapore and Europe. Here is the link for more information: bit.ly/dsccanada
