Hi Carol,
Please tell us how to put the GSOC experience in our profiles.
I guess it is a job (or an internship), so we'll put it under experience, and also if it is a job should we put comapny name: google or ...?

Thanks

Cheers,

That's a good question to ask your mentors or Carol directly. "offlist" as they say.

Google is only financing the program. In GSoC people are not working for Google, rather they are working for an open source organization. So I think it would be better to put something like "Google Summer of Code Intern, Name of Mentoring Organization" in past experience list. Moreover it won't be ethical to put on your profile if you won't be able to finish your project successfully. So don't put it before GSoC ends.

Well, technically students are working as contract developers for Google. So, writing "Student Developer at Google" wouldn't be wrong, I think.

I would suggest that they word it sort of like this:

Google Summer of Code 2011 Student for XYZ Org

this way they get both GSoC *and* the sponsoring organization :)

This is a correct phrasing as bear has listed it. In the future please email me directly with these questions.

Thanks,

Excuse me? This is an absolutely absurd question. Are you aware that over eight thousand people subscribe to this list? We do not need our time wasted with people asking how to fill in their profile on social networking sites.
