Hi all,

I am doing Masters in Computer Science. I would like to contribute to organizations working on projects related to Machine Learning and/or Natural Language Processing. I found a few projects like ArrayFire. I am interested in knowing the projects this years GSoC students worked on and some of your experiences.

If I were to start today which organization must I be targeting for qualifying next year's GSoC ?

Thanks,
Harshitha

Hi,

Disclamair, I am assoicated with the project. Have you taken a look at OpenCog? http://wiki.opencog.org/w/GSoC_2015_Project_Ideas

Hi Harshitha,

In the coming months you should monitor the Open Source Programs Blog since it will have details on many of the projects completed by students in the GSoC. You could also likely find the mailing lists, IRC channels, and repositories of ML mentoring organizations to get an idea of what their GSoC program is like for students.

Keep in mind that there is no guarantee that an organization will apply or be accepted into GSoC next year. However, if you start contributing to a GSoC org now, you will likely have great experience for applying to orgs after the mentoring organization list is announced. It is _much_ easier getting into GSoC if you start the application period with knowledge of how open source organizations collaborate.

Best,
Sean
