Student Acceptance Rate

Hello, I'm just wondering about how many students usually apply for
GSoC. I know last year ~1100 students completed projects, but I'd like
to know how many signed up and what the odds are of getting accepted.

That being said, the best way to work towards being accepted into GSoC is to begin talking to would-be mentoring organizations now. Our mentors near universally report that their best project suggestions came from students who took the time to explore their ideas early and often.
