If you are contacting one of the 184 mentoring organizations now, be aware that most will not have time to respond at this late date, as the application period is nearing its end on Tuesday, March 31 at 18:00 UTC. Most people selected for GSoC 2026 have been communicating since at least February with the orgs.
If you plan to submit a proposal, we strongly suggest submitting your proposal in the next 3 days (before March 28) to avoid issues, remember there are no extensions to the deadline for any reason (even if your computer breaks, you get sick, etc.). Be sure you are aware of all GSoC Program rules and deadlines.
Pro tips
Do not wait to get feedback from a mentor to submit your proposal. If the mentor does respond before the submission deadline you can always go in and upload a newer version of your proposal *until the March 31 1800 UTC deadline. You can re-submit your proposal with edits as many times as you want until the March 31 1800 UTC deadline.
Read the FAQ, contributor guide, writing a proposal, Guidance for GSoC Contributors using AI tooling in GSoC 2026 and advice for applying.
Tip for the GSoC site - When registering as a GSoC contributor for the first time you will need to scroll down on the GSoC homepage and click on the ‘register as a contributor’ button before you will be able to log in through the ‘log in’ button in the upper right corner of the page.
Best of luck to all our applicants!
