Hi,

I am an international student on an F-1 visa. My school requires an "offer letter" from the "employer" in order to process a CPT application. The school asks for a letter with these specific criteria:

  • Name and address of employee (student)
  • Location where student will work (full company address in the body of letter)
  • Detailed description of job responsibilities for the internship
  • Hours per week to be worked
  • Beginning and ending dates of the internship (time frame must adhere to the specific dates listed in the chart above)
How close to these criteria is the letter furnished by Google to the students once the proposal is accepted?

Thank you

Julio

Please keep in mind GSoC is not employment, nor will Google attest to any such thing in any documents: http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2015/help_page#17._employment

When and if you are accepted I'm happy to sign this form and send it back to you: http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2014/studentinfo#cpt

Hi Carol,

Thanks for the info! Since this template is an old version of 2014, I just want to make sure about the official starting and ending dates of the program for 2015: May 25th to August 28th? (I got these dates from the FAQ website).

Thank a lot

Julio

The final day of coding is the firm "pencils down" date, or 21 August.

Cheers,
Carol

Hi Carol,

I looked into the offer letter template available here:

I asked at my school and there are two points in the letter they asked me to ask you if they can be changed:

1. The starting/end date: The template says that the program starts on April 27, 2015 and ends on August 21, 2015. Would it be possible to change the starting date to May 25th, which is when the code writing starts? The school officials require that programs under CPTs don't overlap with the semester, which at my school (USC) ends on May 15th 2015.

2. The part that says: "[Given name>] will work from home on [chose one: her/his] project ...". Is it possible to change "home", by an actual address, let's say my current office/lab where I got to work everyday? The school does not allow students to state "home" as a work address for CPT purposes.

Thanks

Julio

That's up to your mentoring organization, please speak to them directly about what they want the coding period to be (assuming it still falls within the program boundaries).

When and if you are accepted into GSoC please feel free to email me directly to work this out. It will most likely need review by our lawyers, so please contact me about it directly if you are accepted.

Thanks,
Carol

Hi Carol,

Thank you very much for your response. I am applying to work with a sub-organization under the umbrella of a bigger mentoring organization (Python Software Foundation). Who should I check with directly for the dates?

Also, what is your direct email?

Thanks again

Julio

I'm sure PSF would be happy to help you with that, please reach out to them however you normally communicate with them.
