to Google Summer of Code Discuss
Hi,

I am an international student studying in the United States and will be on CPT from May to December in a co-op program. Can I still apply for Google Summer of Code?

Also, from the quote

If you have a great internship starting soon or you're planning a month long backpacking trip, you likely won't be a good candidate for the program.'

so that means I will not be a good candidate since I will start working in a co-op during Summer 2016?

Thank You
San Min Liew

to Google Summer of Code
Hello,

You can apply but I would discourage you from applying. GSOC should be thought of as a full time job (ie 40 hours a week). If you are already doing a co-op program and working 20+ hours a week on that too you are just not going to have the time or energy to do well with either project. GSOC should be your focus if you apply.  And the orgs expect GSOC to be your priority, they will ask you if you have another job or are unable to work during any part of the summer due to travel or other commitments. They will consider your time availability when they choose the projects they will accept. And if you have a commitment like the co-op program that takes up a considerable amount of your time all summer long they will likely not choose your project for GSOC.

Best,
Stephanie
