This year GSoC is open to folks 18 years and older who are new or beginners to open source. The program is no longer just for students (though we do expect probably 80% of our applicant will continue to be students this year).
The
203 mentor organizations are looking for contributors that are excited about their community and reaching out to the orgs and talking to them about their project ideas is the best way to do that. You can use the filters to help you narrow down your list by programming language (python, C++, etc.) and by category (data, development tools, infrastructure and cloud, security, etc.). If you want to quickly look through which orgs are participating be sure to check out our
alphabetical list of the Mentor organizations.
Remember that on April 4th a lot more interested GSoC contributors will reach out to the mentors and ask questions so they won't have as much time to respond to you to help you make your proposal better. Being proactive and communicating with the orgs over these next couple of weeks is always a good idea if you are serious about being a GSoC 2022 contributor.
April 4-19 is when you can actually register on the program site
g.co/gsoc and then submit your proposal.
