Istio - Stackdriver custom metrics gathering

Hi,

I'm trying to use the Istio - Stackdriver integration that was demoed at Google Cloud Next recently, but running into a problem where Stackdriver is not accepting custom metrics of type DELTA

Stackdriver returned: rpc error: code = InvalidArgument desc = Field metricDescriptor.metricKind had an invalid value of "DELTA": When creating metric custom.googleapis.com/stackdriverresponsesize.metric.istio-system: the DELTA metric kind is not supported for custom metrics.

This is confusing to me as the Stackdriver example in the Istio codebase only uses DELTA metrics:

Is anyone familiar with this? Is there a way to enable DELTA custom metrics? Are there some different example configs I can use?
