I dont want to pay for this.  It was somehow enabled for monitoring. I blocked logs.. But i cannot turn off monitoring.  How do i get rid of this.  The google resource pages are not correct.  They just put you in a circle from the stackdriver dashboard accounts to billing and back and forth.  WIth nothing there to actually turn it off / block it!

Hi Ruben,

Only non-GCP metrics are charged, and the first 150MB of non-GCP metric volume is free. Non-GCP metrics include metrics sent by monitoring agent that you may have installed, or custom metrics that you may be writing to, or logs-based metrics that you may have configured, or AWS metrics that you may be ingesting to Stackdriver. You can disable/delete these metrics if you do not need them. If you intend to not use any Stackdriver Monitoring at all, you can also disable the Monitoring API for your projects by going to the API Dashboard in Cloud Console.

Regards,

Summit

Just adding to Summit's note, you only pay for metrics you specifically added--either by installing the agent, creating logs based metrics, instrumenting your app with custom metrics, or adding an AWS account.  Of course, if you've already blocked logs, you'll no longer get logs based metrics.  If you're not sure whether it's agent, logs-based metrics/custom metrics or AWS metrics, you can check on it in the metrics explorer.  Here's a link that will take you there.

It's worth pointing out that if you disable metrics and logs, you likely won't be able to troubleshoot your application if there's an issue so we recommend being cautious about removing visibility.

Best,

Mary

Hello Mary,

We found stackdriver useful for logs.  But we are not paying $4k a month to use it.  We can set up our own logging system.

Thanks

Ruben

I went to the Monitoring API in the API dashboard and try to disable the monitoring and got this message.  Obviously I cannot turn off our App Engine Flex environment.  How can i just disable stackdriver monitoring??

Mary,

I tried Summit's method.  As a StackDriver Product manager you should have an easy way for someone to turn off your product if they don't want it.  I got the bill estimator email (The correct one) and we do not use this at all (The monitoring) and thus do NOT want to pay for it. I tried summit's method and cannot disable. It is enabled on an account that we set up no custom outside monitoring on (it only has google app engine flex instances).

Please let your customers know how they can disable this.

Thanks

Ruben

Note that App Engine Flex metrics are free of cost, as they are considered as part of GCP metrics. You are only charged for metrics that you are ingesting from agents, custom metrics, logs-based metrics, or AWS metrics, which can all be turned off individually.

Hello Summit,

I am hoping this is the case with the charges.  Going to leave in place and see what happens tomorrow on the 30th. I do appreciate your help and time.
