Hi Matt,

Thanks so much for taking time to send feedback.  I'm curious to hear what challenges you faced in getting the threshold to work reliably using rates since we have many large customers who set up alerts exactly as you described (see image below for example configuration for alerting for 50 404s in a minute.  The only difference I'd expect to see in the alerting pipeline with the new system is that it will be faster.

That all being said, we do have support for things like "50 404s in a minute" or even "500 404s total in 10 minutes" on our roadmap.  Still no public dates for this yet, unfortunately but it's high on our list.

Have a great weekend,

A while ago I asked on StackOverflow about alerting over event per period with title "Simple Log alerts for more than X lines matched per 1minute" .. e.g. filter nginx incoming logs tell me if we get more than 50 404s line matched in 1 minute, tell me if we get more than 1 http 500 status code in a minute.

I got a reply along this lines:

I am from the Stackdriver team. Currently, you will need to set your alert threshold on a per-second rate (1.6/s in your case). Alerting on the number of events over a period is a feature that is coming soon in Stackdriver. Thanks!

I couldnt get this work to reliably, does this new August release solve this problem and how should I set this up?

Is there a roadmap? How many active developers does Google have on the StackDriver team?
