Can someone confirm whether SkyMap works well with only GPS, magnetometer, accelerometer sensors on the phone, or does it also need gyroscope ?
Is this application compatible with Android 4.2.1 ? Does it need live network connection to work ? Are there any other requirements for this application ?

It does not need a gyro. In fact, it doesn't do anything special if it detects a gyro.

It also does not need the network. All of the data is stored in the app or calculated dynamically.

Note that it can use either the GPS or network to determine your location. You can also enter it manually (in the menu).

Thanks for clarifying this Kevin. On the google-play page for Sky-Map I found that the software has been open-sourced and on searching a bit found it on google-code. Looks like someone has submitted a patch to use gyroscope (if available) using the newer sensor API's. Any plans of including that ?

BTW, I've not tried Sky-Map so far, because I don't (yet) have an Android device with magnetometer and GPS, and looking at buying one. So wanted to check to understand something very fundamental, if Sky-Map is a night-sky AR app, or really a mapping-app, i.e. does it overlay start/constellation id information on what it captures via camera ? Or doesn't use camera input at all, just shows what it believes I would be looking at, if it were a clear sky and was indeed having the correct orientation as understood by the phone ? Not sure if I managed to put my question through properly...
