I have an LG Optimus S (2,2.1) on Sprint - last night I clicked on the
night mode option and the screen went black. When I press the home
button, I can see the display with the red stars for just a second as
it returns to the Home screen. I have quit the app and re-launched,
but it appears that once you are in night mode it stays there....

I was able to clear cache and get it to work again, but again, if I
switch to night mode the screen goes black.

let me know if you need any more info to help resolve this issue.

I have an LG P500 Optimus One and I have the same problem. Uninstall
and install the App does not solve the problem. Is there a way to
solve the problem?

Hi Steve and Jorgen,
Thanks for the bug report. Jorgen - if you do what Steve did and
clear the app's data (Settings/Manage Applications/Google Sky Map/
Clear Data) it should reset itself.

The reason this is happening is that in night mode we set the screen
brightness to a very low level. It seems to be the case that some
phones interpret this low level as 'off'. We got caught out by this
as we simply don't have every single type of phone to test on. I
think what we're going to need to do is to fix this with a new
release. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.

I have an LG Optimus M (MetroPCS) with the exact same problem. It was
working fine for several days until I selected "Night Mode". Now I
can't get it to start except in Night Mode. Clearing the Cache as John
suggested did no good. Neither did rebooting the phone. If I had some
screen shots, I would try to "blindly" toggle Night Mode off from the
menu option even though I can't see it on the screen. Any other
suggestions before I try uninstalling and reinstalling? Is there any
way to get a notification of a new version that would potentially fix
this issue? It's a great app otherwise.

Hi David - my suggestion was "Clear Data" rather than "Clear Cache".  Does that help?

Sorry, my mistake. I tried again, this time clearing Data rather than Cache and that fixed it. Thanks for clarifying John.
Is there any way to get a notification when a new version is available?

Hi David,
Glad that worked - you had me worried there.  The Market should tell you when there's a new update.  Hopefully we won't keep you in the dark for too long.
