Christmas Colors In Space. Did I write too much?

I've no clue if I am doing this the correct way, but I'm just curious.

Many of us have surely seen something odd in Space. 

I'm curious.

I've seen a bright star. It had a long line, like a tail, connected. 

Next to it, to it's right, is a red line, about the same size as the green. 

The red line and bright brilliance are not connected. The distance is not very long (as looking at the Google Sky Map).

When I attempt to get closer, I'm unable to. The Screen turns white while looking. 

Just gases  fires, or something..?

          Question: What are the red and green lines?
