About the Talk
The NSF Computer and Information Science and Engineering Directorate
funds 86% of all academic computer science research in the United
States. Jeannette will present highlights of CISE's research and
education programs, including current interests in cyber-enabled
discovery and innovation, cyber-physical systems, data-intensive
computing, network science and engineering, and trustworthy computing;
and future interests in Green IT and socially intelligent computing.
She will also put NSF's investments in computing within the broader
national and international context.

About the Speaker:
Jeannette is the President's Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie
Mellon, temporarily on leave while serving at the National Science
Foundation as Assistant Director of the Computer and Information
Science and Engineering Directorate. Her research interests span
formal methods, distributed systems, programming languages, software
engineering, and more recently, trustworthy computing. Before going to
NSF, she was Department Head for Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon.
She got all her degrees from MIT and is a Fellow of the AAAS, ACM, and
IEEE. Her vision for the 21st Century is to make computational
thinking commonplace.
