Hello there.

We purchased a google mini about 2 years ago, maybe 18 months.

The server team didn't rack mount it at the time, and have
subsequently lost all the nuts and bolts that came with it, and any
rack mounting equipment it came with(if it did come with any)

They now need to rack mount it :-)

Can anyone give me any information about rack mounting it?

What do I need, where can I get it from?

The rack is a pretty standard HP 10642 G2 Rack

We've got Mac servers in there, if that's of any help.

Any help, greatly appreciated.

Well, I haven't bought a Mini in a while so I'm not all that familiar
with the case. That said, you don't need anything special to
rack-mount a GSA nowadays - it's a standard Dell box and you can use
the Dell mounting options (Rapid Rails, Versa Rails). So my guess is
that you don't need anything "special", but again that's only a guess.

It used to be the case that GSAs weren't rack-mountable at all, and
we'd buy a rack shelf for each GSA from RackShelves.com ($99 per
shelf). This might also be an option if you can't figure out anything
else, but I doubt you'll need it.

Thanks for getting back to me Dave

I need to buy some stuff and if it doesn't work I'll be in the shit,
so I need a bit better than a guess. No offence intended.

I expect the best people to contact would be customer support in google?

Anyone know who would be best to contact?

Thanks again Dave

None taken.

Yes, open a support ticket for a definitive answer.

If the cases haven't changed, they are stock standard of a brand that's easy to find on eBay.

Google the case, in particular I know Barracuda use the same chassis.

Happy to point you in the right direction if needed.

Steve.

Hi Steve

Sorry to be a dumb ass but what do you mean google the case? Is there
some markings on the case that will identify it?

I'm not part of the server team, you may have guessed already :-)

I thought I replied to this, Apologies if I didn't.

There are a bunch of compatible mounting brackets for the Google Mini,
you can also stick it on a shelf (although, this then means it's
greater than 1RU in height). Half depth servers are very 'similar' in
construction to the Barracuda Load Balancers, you can search for these
to look for spare rack kits, etc.

Basically, you need 4 bolts, (standard rack bolts), 4 washers
(standard), 4 rack clips (standard), 2 bounting brackets for a 1RU,
with handles is better, but without will still serve your ends. An
example of the brackets you 'might' need are here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Supermicro-Intel-Atom-D525-Mini-1U-Rackmount-Server-/130482447286?pt=COMP_EN_Servers&hash=item1e615c23b6
or here http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-SUPERMICRO-SYS-5015M-MR-B-1U-RACKMOUNT-SERVER-/140549942726?pt=COMP_EN_Servers&hash=item20b96dedc6

Guide only, but rack kits for those (not rail kits - let's be clear)
are very cheap, about $20USD should do the job. You can also pull them
off some old servers.

Regards,
Steve.

Thanks Steven

I'm pretty sure I've got enough to go on here.

If I make a $20 fail then I reckon I can talk my way out of that
one(or stump up the cash myself :-))

Thanks again

Matt
