Searching for an iCalendar recurrence format that works across devices

I have asked a question on StackOverflow as I am trying to establish if there is a format of iCalendar recurrence that works on Google Calendar, Android and Apple devices.

I hope that I'm not breaking any forum rules but I thought that posting a link here might get me a more informed response.
