What’s new in passkeys: features, guides, and I/O updates

We’ve had a busy couple of months building some exciting updates for you!

New Capabilities

• Automatic passkey creation: Passkeys offer strong, phishing-resistant authentication. However, getting users to adopt them can introduce friction. With automatic passkey creation you can create passkeys for your users at the right moment, as long as they already have a password saved for your site. Chrome on desktop started supporting this feature. Check out the announcement and the developer guide. This feature is also available in the latest alpha version of Android's Credential Manager, so Android apps can also try automatic passkey creation now.

New resources

• Zoho case study: We have published Zoho technical case study showcasing their passkeys & Credential Manager technical deep-dive along with amazing business metrics on how they achieved 6x faster logins with passkeys and more 🎉

• Updates on Android Identity Sample: We have updated our public Android sample to demonstrate best practices for implementing settings and passkeys management screens. 

• Passkey developer guides for the web: We've revamped the passkey developer guides for the web to help make your passkey implementation more user-friendly:.

  • Create a passkey for passwordless logins

  • Learn how to build a form based passkey experience

  • Learn how to build a passkey management page (New!)

  • Secure and seamless passkeys: A deployment checklist (New!)

Events

Google I/O

Our biggest annual developer event Google I/O took place in May. Check out these developer sessions we think you'll find interesting:

• Reshaping user authentication and identity verification: Whether you use passwords, passkeys, or federation, Chrome will offer a unified sign-in and sign-up experience that's simpler, safer, and more user-friendly.

• What’s new in Android: Checkout key Identity updates as a part of What’s New in Android keynote session from Google I/O 2025. 

FIDO India Workshop

FIDO Alliance India is organizing an invite only FIDO India Workshop at Google Bangalore on June 6th. Top minds in Identity, Cybersecurity, and Authentication will gather to share insights on passkey deployments, FIDO integration, and local breakthroughs.
