250 Character Limit for Submissions

I've noticed that Google Moderator has a 250 character limit for submissions. Is this a hard limit? If I post to moderator using the API is the limit still 250 characters? Thanks. :)

I've noticed the same : questions about 250 chars result in a response
with a 500 code (which isn't correct, but that's another issue) and
'MAX_STRING_LENGTH_EXCEEDED' in the errors.
