Waypoint after mile - Directions

I have code like this: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/directions-draggable.html
It's great but i need create waypoint after mile (or 10, or 15, or 20 miles ...) from start (origin)

any ideas?

It's interesting, but I need somethink different.
I have startpoint and endpoint (this is 2 cities). 
And now I need create waypoint on this highlighting way.
This waypoint is for example 10 miles from startpoint.

Also I need it in API v3.

That "highlighting way" is a polyline, that example puts markers every
2km.

from v2)
