Possible to create random route given a starting point?

Hi,

While working on a project which pays the bills, I had an idea for a fun Google Maps API-driven game which would involve the player following a random route starting at a specific point. I'm pretty familiar with the API however can't seem to conceive of a way to randomly identify a point *on a street* say five miles away from any given point. If I could do that, then creating the route is of course easy. Any ideas on how to hit upon a random point which resides on a street?
