glm mmap directions

Hello All, I was curious how google maps on the iPhone was getting directions with with traffic durations. So i sniffed and found that it is going to http://www.google.com/glm/mmap. And its requesting with a binary which includes the start and the ending address. And response includes the time and all directional info needed.

I could not find any documentation on this glm/mmap method. Anyone familiar with this.

The only public directions API is the one documented with the Maps API. The iPhone endpoint has no public documentation because it is not intended for public use with third-party applications. And further, without express, written permission to use the service (e.g., a Terms of Use/Service or other license), it is illegal for you to utilize it within your application(s).

I found out that the mapkit in iphone api uses this as well. So to a point they let you use it trough the kit. Its still not the same of directly accessing it.

Well ios5 is coming out. Hopefully they will have directions with durations added to mapkit framework.
