Markers changed to render via canvas?

We've seen a change to our v3 maps behavior in thew last 24-48 hours
or so - it looks like markers are now being rendered via canvas where
available.

Two quick questions:
- Is this a part of a larger release?
- Should we be looking anywhere besides the link below to monitor
changes?

If you don't specify a version when you load your map, you frequently will get code with changes that haven't yet been announced. This is great for development sites and not so great for productions ones.

Hi Adam,

Fast markers just rolled out about 20 hours ago in the nightly version. We usually hold off announcing releases for a day or two, to give sites a chance to report serious errors requiring a roll back.

You guys ought to rethink your event listener model. One "function
closure" per marker per activity is a lot of redundancy. A single
event listener for all markers saves resources. Also, you could apply
the "setMap" method to many markers together rather than to each
marker individually. Ditto for "setStyle".

guess my markershadows are displaced since this change now

go to:

- click the map - shadow is ok
- click very first icon on menu on left side (google icon)
- search for e.g mils
- click red marker appearing next to any of the search results
- marker shadow is displaced
- cannot see any change even by changing the shadows 'new google.maps.Point' option
- changing version to 3.3 fixes the problem
