When running tools like YSlow and Google's Page Speed it comes with suggestions based solely on the fact that google maps is used ie

"The following resources are missing a cache validator. Resources that do not specify a cache validator cannot be refreshed efficiently. Specify a Last-Modified or ETag header to enable cache validation for the following resources:..."

and there is not much I can do about it. Should I not worry about this since this is the way it should be? How come Google's own page speed service doesn't acknowledge Google maps and makes me an advice to take care of something of "high priority" when it's obviously nothing else I can do but switching from Google maps to a local map and maybe I won't do that.

Any comments or ideas?

Thank you

The rules in YSlow and PageSpeed are general rules. I imagine that, if the developers were to incorporate logic for every known, appropriate exception, even on their own sites and services, the project would be untenable in terms of manpower, let alone code and performance. The point of these tools is to offer recommendations. If you can do something about the individual recommendation, then do it. Otherwise, if circumstances prevent it (e.g., it's out of your control or it would break your application), don't.
