What is exactly a referral site in GA?

Hi,

We implemented GA tracking on http://www22.verizon.com/jobs about 9 months ago. We see the following URL with major number as a referral site

131,441 . As per thr referral site definition, the source site which is http://www22.verizon.com/jobs should have been referred from http://careers.verizonwireless.com but which is not the case. We don't have any referral from http://careers.verizonwireless.com to http://www22.verizon.com/jobs. I appreciate if someone can explain how this is possible.

Does this not refer to Google Analytics? Does it have anything to do
with the Google Maps API (the subject of this Group)?

[That's not supposed to sound belligerent, really; but it's doubtful
that this Group is the right one]
