Smooth scrolling in Street View?

Hello all.

I am not sure if the new JS API can help with this. Perhaps it can be
achieved some other way outside the JS API and if so, just point me in
the right direction.

Currently when in street view, when you are moving around the map,
there's a definite pause as the map loads in new image data from the
server when you move to a view/location previously not visited. I
want to create a demo where the scrolling is smooth, giving the
impression of being able to "fly around" the street view in a liquid
fashion.

Is there a way to get this done? Perhaps a way to pre-load the image
data for a radius centered around a given geographical area? If so,
would it be possible to cache the data for future sessions in critical
venues, like when giving a demonstration at a show?

Also, if there is a convenient way or JS method to overlay your own
graphic data on the street view image then I'd like to know about it.

Thanks in advance.

If you know the pano ids, loading them in their own StreetViewPanorama should cache some image tiles within the browser. Experiment with it and let me know how you go.

Unfortunately not, if you'd like this functionality, please create a feature request so other developres can show support:

Hello Chris,

Thanks. Just created the feature request and started a new Google
Groups thread to announce it. I'm duplicating the link here for the
convenience of anyone driving by:
