Hello,

When I go to maps.google.co.uk and search for, say, "Asda", it lists all of the Asda stores in the UK. Is it possible using the Google Maps API to do this same function programmatically and list all of the geolocations as longitudes/latitudes in the results?

If so, could someone point me in the direction of a relevant document or give an indication of how to go about this.

Thanks for your time,

-Ross

I would suggest using the Places API, but it doesn't really support longtail/keyword queries such as I believe you're looking for. The best it will do is the name parameter, which will compare your given term to the name of the place, and/or the types parameter, which will limit the results to a given genre of place. You can find documentation for these APIs at the links below:

Thanks for the suggestions - I've looked into using the places API via the web service and it finds local results fine, but when extended by making the radius several hundered miles it doesn't return enough results. Is there any where to specify how many results are returned? Does this limitation only apply when using the web service or is it also when using the API directly?

Many thanks,

-Ross

Hi Ross,

The Places API can only give a maximum of 20 'establishment' results per query.

Enough for what? You could just ask Asda where their stores are?
