Hi guys,

I have quite a few question and have been reading around this group to
look and see.

Well, my objective is the subject. I need to get an address only using
the place so I am using geocode for this.

I tried the example here (http://code.google.com/apis/maps/
documentation/javascript/geocoding.html#GeocodingRequests) and tried
out "manila" (city here in Philippines) and it's working fine. When I
tried "uplb" (University here in Phils.) it also gives me a result
which is fantastic.
But when I tried out "nbc tent philippines" it gives me ZERO_RESULTS,
where as if I typed the same over at http://maps.google.com/ I would
get results.

I've read out here
http://groups.google.com/group/google-maps-js-api-v3/browse_thread/thread/f6aea616a986f06d/624b9621254fc5b9?lnk=gst&q=geocode+store+complete+address#624b9621254fc5b9
that the API's are different, if so - how could I use that one, or
both if ever?

Also, I've read somewhere around here that it is restricted to save
informations and stuff, like lats and longs, is it also forbidden to
save the formatted address of the place so that I can give them
completed address just by them entering the place?

Thanks and cheers!

Geocoding turns an address into a location (latitude/longitude).

I'm suprised. That's not an address so I wouldn't expect it to work
really. There won't be many cases like that do work.

To find places like businesses or institutions, try the Places API
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/places/
It does gave limitations; a search worldwide for "uplb" is unlikely to
work.

Google's data is Google's data. Forbidden to save for most purposes,
okay to show to your users with a map.

I see now. So I think I was using the wrong one. XD

Checking this one out now, I think this is perfect (http://
code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/places-
autocomplete.html). It can get most of the places that I tried.
Thanks! :) But how should I tackle the places that are not yet
searchable or places not yet in places?
I tried the marker to and get the location (lat, lng) of a not-yet-in-
places place and I think that would work. You've mentioned that it's
forbidden unless I show it with a map and I think I'd be doing that
for places not yet in google's places so do you think I can do that, I
mean, save the lat,lng of those certain places?

Thanks!

Yes, Google place no restriction on you doing things with data that
isn't Google's.
