Adding a sidebar

I am looking to upgrade some of the maps on my site www.conneroutdoors.com
with the new v3 maps, I would like to use the simple code used in this
example, http://code.google.com/apis/maps/articles/phpsqlajax_v3.html
but I need to add a sidebar to the map, can anyone point me to an
example or a tutorial that would show how to do this. Thanks Pete

OK I am getting close, I have managed to get a sidebar using code from
Pamela's example http://code.google.com/apis/maps/articles/phpsqlsearch_v3.html
Creating a store locator.
the page I am working on is www.conneroutdoors.com/alabama.html but I
can't seem to get the click function to open the infowindow to work
from the sidebar
Please bear with me I know this is probably simple but I am no coder.

I was interested in your solution and therefore started debugging.

There are a few mistakes in your code:
1. You declared "var markers = [];" which is good but later on you reuse the variable name as "var markers = xml.documentElement.getElementsByTagName("marker");" and that's wrong.
2. You never add elements to initial marker array.
