Animating mapTypes

I have a demo here:

Is there a more elegant method of accomplishing an animation of mapTypes? This demo works but it flashes a lot and is hard on the eyes.

Cool demo. I can't really offer any suggestion - can you explain the use case in more detail?

I feel that animating a Ground Overlay may provide better results.

Well I don't really see any map there though I do see the Google logo
- am I missing something? In any case, you might find something here
you can use even though it's a v2 map and it's the background that is
dynamic.

What you see are three layers being animated with a 1.5 second interval. That's what the flashing colors are. There's a fourth layer as a "base" that's gray. You can see that flashing underneath. There are no Google maps in this demo, just a couple of colored tiles.

I want to use v3. I already know how to do it with v2. Thanks anyway.
