Considering the My Maps Editor doesn't work on the latest devices
anyway, (I still use it on Android 1.6/Ion, but can't on 2.1/NexusOne)

I take it that the removal of the API will speed its ultimate demise :(

in fact just realised the My Tracks application probably used the API
too import a track into My Maps.

I guess that functionality is going too?

Hi Barry,

Regarding the My Maps Editor - this has not been under any development
for quite a while (which is why it does not work on the more recent
Android versions) and will stop working completely once the API is no
longer available.

As for MyTracks, we are making an effort to continue to support a
slightly different data export option in the future, and it's possible
this will even be enabled before the Maps Data API deprecation period
is over.

Cheers,

-Josh

Hey Josh,

That's interesting! So there hasn't been much interest in the app? I remember seeing it in the media when it first came out and feeling envious of Android!

Can Google update the Market to warn users, instead of saying nothing.
Gives people the idea that Google doesn't care.

Does Google plan to develop a comparable tool to the Map Editor for Google Maps for user to design and store maps?

Agree, totally. The market description/text badly needs updating.

Or even just removing it from the Market ?

I do hope that the folks at Google elect to integrate an edit capability of My Maps within Google Maps. The removal of  this app leaves a gap in the user's ability to add a location to a personalized map without returning to  the laptop. Thanks.

Any news on this? My Track's is now broken in this regard.

To make it worse the My Maps Import (to import a KML from My Tracks)
is also broken :(
