Hi,

I am working on a commercial site idea that has geolocation as a key
concept. I believe my data set will be about 10000 - 15000 features
over time and will be continental US in geography.

I have been exploring the idea of storing all my features in the
google maps data API. I have written some code to create maps, add
features, etc. and that all looks good through the My Maps
functionality.

What I wanted was a publicly addressable site - so no logins, public
access to that map. I had hoped to use the GeoXml overlay to take my
Google Maps Data and overlay it on a map the user searches on. I want
the user to be able to geolocate to the center of the map. Then
clicking on feature would active the contents of the site. Eventually
I can do a Mapplet, but right now I want the map functionality.

My questions:

1. Is there a simple way to use my map as the map for the use site?
2. Do I have to use My Maps with authentication to provide public
access to this map (note the features are not user editable)
3. Should I just skip the Google Maps Data and manage the features
myself in a local database and add them to the standard Google Map API
for features (using the MarkerManager for instance)?

I have been struggling with the right way to go for v3. I really like
the idea of managing my data through the Maps Data API since it does
not change frequently and it is convenient. But I do not see the
simple way to make it an anonymous service.

Probably the only way is to make a simple proxy on your server, that
accepts the request, and asks the Maps Data API, and returns the data
back to the client.
Possibly use JSON as the transport mechnaism back to the map, to make
the Maps client as simple as possible (and see no reason that cant be
done in a v3 Map)

prads, please don't hi-jack threads. You question appears to have
nothing to do with the content of this thread.

Just start a new thread, and address it to the whole group.

You should be also include a lot more detail, for examples snippets of
code, and the exact steps you are taking. It's very hard to have too
much info in a question, but far too easy to have too little.

To address the original post, you can now enable public map access
without login:
