Hi all,
I have a question that impacts almost every address in the Country of Brunei Darussalam, and possibly in Malaysia, too.
Street Addresses in Brunei are different from the normal I've seen in the US and Europe.
Very often a building will be not on a main road (Jalan) but on side street that connects to a Jalan (Simpang). You can not express an accurate location without including both the Simpang and the Jalan.
Here's a simple example:
#721
Simpang 18
Jalan Tungku
City
Region Postal Code
Brunei Darussalam
"Simpang 18" simply denotes which numbered side-street off "Jalan Tungku" that Building #721 is on.
Simpang numbers in Brunei are only unique in the context of each Jalan. There could be a Simpang 18 on every Jalan. Much like building numbers in the US which are only unique in the context of the Street they are on.
On top of this, Simpang numbers are hierarchical. For example, the Address of the US Embassy in Brunei is:
Simpang 336-52-16-9
Jalan Kabangsaan
Bandar Seri Begawan, BE 4115
Which means, the Embassy is located on side-road 9, off of side-road 16, off of side-road 52 off of side-road 336 off of Jalan Kebangsan. Which is easy to see by looking at this:

Thanks,
Dave
