Hello Mappers,

We welcome your input on the Mapmaker France launch updates that we rolled out earlier today, on this forum post.

Thanks

Hi Sneha,
It would be helpful to have a rolling change log showing date stamped line items noted as "fix" or "enhancement" and, if they address an issue in the Issue Tracker, the issue.

For instance, you mention:
The all new Google-one Bar:
A long time request, we’ve now come up with a Google one bar which has all the toolbars at one place.

It's great that issues in Issue Tracker are being addressed. What issue is this? Scanning the issues, it's not one of the top 20 by votes and my incompetent search couldn't find it.

Also, another request that announcements be simultaneous or precede releases, so that the community that actually uses your product is informed.  Seems pretty basic.

We have a small problem with the strings in Brazilian Portuguese language.

@Rich - agreed, it would be nice to have a more detailed changelog, just as you described.

Did they really just remove the sub-locality/locality/district-county fields entirely?  This could get messy very quickly.

At least the buttons are in better places...

It's already a disaster in South Carolina where some towns are in two counties, some roads (in part) are maintained by a county, and each county has it's own departments/commissions, etc., Two towns with similar names may be just across the county line from each other

I haven't wanted to tell GMM that the NC/SC state line is changing

Hey all,

@Rich - Thanks for your feedback on changelog.

@Mauricio - It’d be helpful for us to understand if you could elaborate on the issue reported here.

@delta fox - Are you still seeing your edits being held for moderation? Please post back with the links for investigation.

@John and Mara - We’re aware of this concern and it’s being looked into. Appreciate your patience on this!

~Rahim

Hi Rahim,
I take your answer to mean that the Google one bar, which you mention as a long time request, wasn't actually an issue in Issue Tracker.  I understand that the Google one bar may be important for internal reasons that aren't customer facing, but it doesn't:
  • improve mapper productivity
  • bring more mappers to GMM and have them do that first productive edit
  • retain mappers.
presumably the issues we've identified in Issue Tracker do one or more of these.

Hi Rahim,

Yes - each and every of my edits in France still are submitted to moderation, even the most trivial ones... while some of them get approved quickly, many others remain pending after several weeks, it seems that if they are not moderated immediately they get 'forgotten' but the system (sometimes even after replying to a moderator's comments) - After a while they even no longer appear in 'My Edits' tab so that it is impossible to cancel or modify them !!! See my pending edits there : http://www.google.com/mapmaker?gw=66&ptab=1&uid=213815864624376396343&start=0&sort=etype

I suppose this is the policy for edits in France to moderate each edit, even from experienced mappers, but it make things very slow and in some cases impossible when a change to the map requires more than one edit... With the risk of introducing errors when an edit is made 'blind' (when waiting for a related feature be published, you cannot control most road attributes). And, most of the times the edit will not be approved without replying to one automated comment requesting a confirmation or more details (even if details have already be provided in comments...)

And I suppose it takes as much time of Google Reviewers to approve edits that if they were doing the job themselves... so, why should we continue to waste our time and efforts ???

I must add that many of my pending edits do no longer appear neither in 'my Edits' tab not in my profile... see for instance this one http://goo.gl/3b5jx, amidst many other...
