GMM Team,

Kindly incorporate the following signage for displaying National
Highways (Primary & Secondary highways) as well as Motorways
(Controlled Access Roads) in Pakistan on the google maps.

Currently National Highway names show up in a default rectangle e.g.
the box would say NH5.
Motorway names on the other hand don't show up all together as
discussed here:
http://groups.google.com/group/google-mapmaker/browse_thread/thread/ff9a0e38523a679/90da4e86d935c69d?lnk=gst&q=controlled+access+momers#90da4e86d935c69d

Just as highways, expressways and routes have their own distinct
signage in North America as well as Europe, the following symbols are
used as formal signage for visual identification in PK.

Motorways signage template

National Highways Signage template

I reproduced these signs on my own effort as the NHA's website doesn't
have any formal guidelines describing the construction details of
these symbols. But what i have produced above is very close to the
original signs. I am also looking for the correct colours as these
colours i measured from some relevant signage i found online. But if
someone can help it would be appreciated. The signage uses reflective
sheeting from the company 3M and they have standard colours for this
type of signage, i just don't know what colour values they use as
standard.

Maybe some other mapper who is a better artist take photos of the
original signs as posted on the roads here ( i can help) and create
better templates for GMM to follow? or GMM team can do it on their
own, you are GOOGLE after all!

Meanwhile, GMM Team, kindly incorporate these signs in your next
release for the software.

Thanks

I agree for including signage as almost each and evey country's
highways and motorways have them. It's been couple of years now since
I had been to back home but I remember from my memory that signs for
motorways and highways are somewhat are similar to the ones in UK.
These signage are located at many roads' information boards in
Pakistan whereever the motorway or any major highway is nearby. A road
sign with some overhead bridge or something like that . I'm not
sitting on my pc otherwise I could just find and post an example.
Anyway, and also motorway signs are in blue color and highways are in
green color. That's what's best to my knowledge. :)

This is a better colour rendering i believe for the motorway signs.
the older signs had a darker shade of green which i have noticed is
not the actual colour seen here.

Dear GMM,

I have recently been traveling on the motorways here and have seen 3
variations of the signage for motorways! BTW what i have posted above
is also one of the versions of the signage i have seen on the motorway
and hence is correct!

Appears the National highway Authority still hasnt agreed on what the
official signage would be!

The signage that I posted earlier, the signs I have seen recently are
variations of that. How old are they, or are they the new ones I can
not yet confirm though I have tried hard to judge if the sigange was
latest. I am trying to get some info from the NHA to verify. Will post
updates as I get them.

BTW signage is visible in the data on the version of maps that just
went live on Mobile Maps. Highway signage was correct, motorway
signage is no where near to what I had posted!??

After my recent trips on the motorways I have deciphered what the
latest correct and official signage is! NHA still hasn't responded to
my queries via email btw :(

Here the correct signage/logo for motorways:
http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/lh/photo/KAFXUuWiCF5IvckUu2sLLg?feat=directlink

Just for history sake this is the original logo for motorway signage:
look in the top right corner.
http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/momers/MotorwaySignage?feat=directlink#5324138366682788338

I personally like the older one, as its far more artsy and
sophisticated looking and pleasing to the eye. I also saw an upside
down usage of this old logo on M-3 motorway, a mistake i think which
no one bothered to check or correct in typical Pakistani style!

Any way GMM, kindly for ur next release on mobile and earth, use these
signage logos. For the primary highways the signage you are using is
correct.

Thank you.
