If I want to name a traffic circle or a whole junction (with many intersections) - which way is the best?

Traffic circle:
- Name the segment as a street name (Negative: it will be difficult to read it out because segment's round, and small)
- Draw a polygon/shape in the middle of the circle, and name it (what category?)
- Make a new place in the middle of the traffic circle.

Junction: the only way to name it would be pointing it out as a place.

Help is appreciated, thanks!

name road segments. that way driving directions will give accurate routing info.
don't worry about visual rendering aspect. let google worry and figure out how best to display that.
we want maps to be most accurate, not prettiest looking.

Hi, thedrop,

My vision on the Traffic circle:

- Name the segment as a street name (Negative: it will be difficult to read it out because segment's round, and small)

Don't use any name for the roundabouts. Whole the roundabout should be a separate street without any name.

- Draw a polygon/shape in the middle of the circle, and name it (what category?)

Yes, draw a polygon/shape in the middle of the circle with Vegetation category. While drawing shapes for boundaries, it is important to extend the shape to the center of the road to create cleaner, more polished polygons on Maps.

- Make a new place in the middle of the traffic circle.

I think you can make a new POI with the roundabout's name in the middle of the traffic circle

For reference see also Loops and roundabouts.

Why would you make it a street without any name? It depending if that roundabout has dedicated name or its of an existing street.

If there's vegetation in the middle..

If you make it such, I don't think driving directions will have any special instructions about roundabout..

For roundabouts, this seems to be best practices:

If roundabout has its own recognizable name (i.e. Columbus Circle), then name it the recognizable name, removing all other names.  Driving directions will say something like "Enter Columbus Circle" or something along those lines.

If the roundabout simply carries some normal road names, without a distinct name of its own, leave the roundabout segments un-named.  Driving directions will say something like "Enter roundabout and take 2nd exit to Central Park West," or something like that.

Hi, Mxx,

You almost correct. I was very short because my English.

Traffic circle cannot be a part of a connected street's.

Hi Mxx, Serge,
I too have a doubt regarding roundabouts but its little different, I want to know where to add traffic signs in a Roundabout. Whether to add them in the intersection prior to roundabout or in he Roundabout. Please take a look at this thread and clear my doubt.Link to the thread http://goo.gl/5KXIM , Thanks in advance.

With regards
Srinivas.

    Hi All,

From the discussion on the thread it seems that you are trying to name an intersection. Usually prominent/famous intersections have a name and you can name them by marking it as an Establishment/Point Of Interest.

A round about in general does not have a name. If there exists a name it should be different from the names of the segments entering the roundabout.

Feel free to post back if you have any questions on this.

    Thanks
    Praneeth
