I am at my wits end.   I have been trying to get help to delete  a street name from my private driveway.   How do I contact someone at Google Maps to accomplish this without having my attorney do this for me?  I do not care to have people come down my driveway looking for a business which is not there............  Help.

First off, it helps to have a link. It sort of gives the thread a background.

If the driveway serves less than three houses (which I'm assuming so based on what you said), then it can be deleted.

To delete a road, first go to Edit>Select a Line, and then click on the driveway. In the marker/balloon for the driveway, click on Edit>Delete. If only a part of the driveway has been selected, this means that the driveway is made up of multiple segments and you have to repeat this (2nd) step for each segment. Also, leave a comment explaining that this is a private driveway and is not a street.

What's the logic for saying "serving <3 houses," which means when 2 houses are served it's assumed to always be a private driveway?

If the houses are unrelated, why would this be the case?  I can see the single house case, but once you're serving >1 and it's a publicly maintained road, which really seems to be the determining criterion, some status other than Private seems to be appropriate.  (Just to acknowledge that these discussions about how many angels can dance on the tip of a pin are fairly ridiculous, but I'm on a boring con call.)

I think 3 is an arbitrarily set number. It's not too much or too little.

Rich, the logic is that for E911 purposes 3 or more houses on a driveway will meet a certain standard which I cannot find reference to right now. Its used for addressing purposing.

There are two residences on this driveway and it is not publicly maintained.

Zosia, have you tried using Google Map Maker to change it yourself?  The other way would be to report a problem in Google Maps and have Google employees fix it, but you could be waiting a while.

This is the Map Maker forum, and Sai's first reply to you tells you how to delete the road using Map Maker, but you could also just remove the name from it if that's all you want to do.  If you are still not sure how to do this, post back with the address and we can give you more instructions, or possibly someone will be nice enough to just take care of it for you.

I have tried several times to resolve the problem without success.  But then I am not totally computer literate:)  Hate to admit it but I am 70 years old:(     I have sent another message to google maps will see what happens.

For anyone who might be nice enough to help me.  Go to google maps and look for the Green Valley Animal Hospital in Green Valley Arizona (I own this location and hospital).  It is located at 220 E Duval Rd, Green Valley, AZ   Then look for 1902 N. Abrego Drive and go a few block south.  You will see a driveway at 1902 N Abrego. The driveway goes east off of Abrego.  It is also labeled as E. Duval Rd.  In actuality it is my private driveway with no name.  It has two houses located on it plus a guest house and some stables and horse padocks along with some other outbuildings.  You can see it on the earth view.   On two occasions I have had emergency vehicles come down my driveway looking for a house on E. Duval Rd. I have also had people looking for the Vet Hospital come there.  Very annoying to say the least.  Need to have this resolved if possible.

Eternally grateful for any help I can get:)

Zosia, if I understand correctly, the driveway is on the east side of N Abrego, between E Duval and E Calle Herboso.  Is that correct?  The link for the driveway is http://goo.gl/dkOMo.  If that's correct let me know and we can delete the driveway.

There is also a business showing at this location called SPCA of Arizona.  The link is http://goo.gl/FTJzS.  Should that be moved also?

Just so you know, we can remove if from Google but if it's incorrect in other databases, a personal GPS will still send people here (i.e. Garmin, TomTom, etc...)
