I have a road that is currently one segment, but want to split it into two as there is a small part that is one way, what would be the best way to do that....  I know I probably should have created it as two segments initially but want to know how to do it now that it is one segment

This is the road: http://www.google.com/mapmaker?gw=39&fid=0x89e46f9decb45da1:0xde76dd490e95c6ed

Thanks,
Geoff

If you are referring to the parking lot road, than in this case, it seems easy to do. The segment from King St looks like a one-way segment. So, you can draw a road from Union St to the end of the one-way stretch, specify that segment as one-way, leading into the parking lot area, and specify the other two segment as one-way in the appropriate direction.

So there is no way to click on a point on the road to divide it into two separate segments?  I think adding the additional road in the other direction is a bit of a "hack" and would likely prefer to delete the road and redo it or leave it as is since it is a parking area and non-routeable anyway...

I might enter a request to add a way to divide a contiguous road into two segments...  I am sure this is not the only area where part is one way and it has been drawn as a continuous segment.

I see what you mean. The only known way is to create a "dummy" road starting from the point where you want the intersection, then delete the dummy road. That way, you will wave two segments.

There probably is an issue on this posted on the Issue Tracker, but I can't find it.

Great question! I have given up on two different roads that I was trying to split into two segments because the name of the road changes at a point midway through its length.  As it stands now at each location, one portion is named correctly, and the other segment has two names.

Someone even tried to fix the first one for me.

If you use this method, be sure NOT to edit anything else on the road first.  I just tried to use this method in two places in my city, and when I tried to "change route associations," it told me I could not proceed because the selected route had already been deleted.

I too think that road splitting would be great.  It seems like a major oversight  that it is not possible.  I have a situation where I need to change a three way intersection to a traffic circle.  I can create the circle, but I can't disconnect the road from the current intersection to re-route it to the circle.

Creating the circle will split the road by making an intersection. Create the circle first, then delete the roads that are inside the circle, and you have yourself a traffic circle.

Splitting can be easily done.  Just create a small road cutting across the road where you want to split it.  Label it "dummy road" and set it for "no traffic", and put in the comments that it is temporary and you will delete it after you make changes to the (new) road segments it creates.

i created a temporary road to split a road.  It looks like i need the temp road to be approved before i can edit the now split road.  this road http://g.co/maps/pzpve

My preferred method is to make a temporary trail/path as a dummy segment (less approval required - often instant!).  If I'm changing a one-line road, I just intersect it from one side, without crossing it to the other side.  That way, there's only one segment to delete later.  Then, I name it something obvious like TEMPORARY PATH.  Once it goes live, then you can delete it.  The intersection will remain!

Here's the road Kevin's talking about, as a GMM link:

Many thanks for explaining this technique to split a road into segments. It solved a major problem I was having.
