At one time there was a help page describing just what you ask. It was taken down and I don't know if it has returned.

It said, basically, if you have an address like 1313 Mockingbird Lane Suite 13, you would place the suite number in the same box as the house number, as in: Suite 13, 1313

This makes a certain amount of sense, since you are going from the most specific part of the address, to the least, from left to right. When you input a suite like this, Map Maker automagically changes it to something like: 1313 Mockingbird Ln #13

Of course, some reviewers seem clueless about this.

What's REALLY fun is when Map Maker won't allow you to enter the correct road name. Then you can still enter the suite and house number, but you are forced to move to Google Maps to further edit the street name. (see Tikahtnu Commons mall in Anchorage, AK where North Muldoon Road is not yet allowed in drop down list.)

I have never see that.  However, this help page:
http://www.google.com/support/mapmaker/bin/answer.py?answer=1096051 states (my emphasis):

Building number

Enter the Building number or Door number associated with the location in this field. This field is used in finding addresses when searched for on Maps. Please ensure that you do not add any dashes or special characters such as ‘/’ or ‘-’ here. Also, do not add suite or apartment numbers in this field. For example, the building number 101 should be entered in this field as “101”.

It doesn't discuss whether using a comma allows for an exception.  As far as your example address (1313 Mockingbird Ln #13 - Say hi to Herman for me), I've seen some suites done like this, but don't know if it's right, nor whether I'm just supposed to append the suite to the street name, or whether this is an artifact of something else (like what you described).

Hi guys,

The Help article quoted here is only applicable for 'Address/plot' features now that there have been a few updates on Map Maker. You can add the suite number for all other features in the 'Building number' field except in the case of 'Address plots'.
We will update this help article soon.

Thanks,
Raza

OK, I'll try using the method given by Roginator, and see what happens.

OK, I've tried my first suite number.  It doesn't look right yet, but maybe it will after approval.  Can you (or someone) look at this one:
http://goo.gl/OVXe1 and either approve it or let me know if I need to change something?  Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, they don't use the address 6480 Caroline Street, Suite G? I can see why a business would want to use the more official-sounding "Highway 90" name.

They do things slightly differently in Alaska, but don't they normally use "State Highway 90" or "US Highway 90" in road names?

Until the help is updated: What is the preferred way to enter suite numbers now?  (I saw some help popup in the past that said it should be entered 543/21, where 543 is the building and 21 is the apartment/suite number.  I don't remember where I saw it.  I've also seen popups show suites as a separate data field like "21, 543, West Smith Street" but without the suite or comma in the actual Building Number entry field.)

Also: Any plans to allow suites in Address/Plot?  I have occasionally found strip malls in which 10-20 businesses have the same address except for the suite, and automatic marker placement could possibly benefit from dropping Address/Plot markers at the beginning and end of the building.  (I presume, from what I've seen in discussions, that Address/Plot markers are intended to be hints for calculating automatic marker placement and/or what Street View thinks your current position is.)

Whole different topic:
Bottom line - it depends.  All the businesses on Highway 90/Caroline use Highway 90 in their address, (around the corner on highways 87 and 89 they use the street name) but Highway 90 is not in the dropdown.  I just figured out how to add Highway 90 to the dropdown, and submitted that, but it hasn't been approved yet:
If anyone would like to approve that, that would be good.

However, for the last three days I haven't been able to edit much at all, so I'm taking a rest from editing until Google fixes things:

    Hi All,

@majorgonzo, you can add the suite numbers in the Building number field.

@Roginator- We agree with your resolution.

@Jim- You can add the Suite numbers in "Address/Plot" as well.

The Help and tool tips will be updated as soon as possible.

If any changes are required, we will do it on your behalf informing you about it.

    Regards,
    Abhishek

Hi, my name is Chris Beeler.  I am in the process of converting the address 144 North Main Street Cedartown, GA  30125 to include Suite A, Suite B, & Suite C.

I already have a Google Map & G+ listing for my main business (Beeler Insurance Agency) at the master address (the listing with no suites).

I need to edit my current listing to add a suite.  Then, I'll create two new listings (these are new business ventures) and use the master address but add the appropriate Suite #'s.

As I have described my intent, can anyone in this group describe any pitfalls that I might encounter or might anyone have any advice to make sure I don't screw something up?

Kind regards & many thanks from a total noobie.

Chris, you simply can't create Suites for Business Ventures as suites would be physically separated features within a building (in your case). Looking at this building in street view I wonder how each suite address would qualify for having its own physically separated space from your Insurance Agency. I suppose anything is possible, but red flags are waving.

Potential Pitfalls: the business ventures aren't actually located in the places you say and will be removed by Google (if they are your ventures you risk your business feature for Beeler Insurance being pulled down too).
