Hi all,
I downloaded a KML file from a website and it has multiple places included in it. I want to split it and use it in in Map Maker, How can I achieve this as Map Maker Overlay tool allows only KML URL. Currently I am using Google Earth to open the KML file and selecting View in Google Maps option from File menu and then clicking edit in map maker. Is there any possible yet easy way to do this? Link to the KML pack : http://goo.gl/kuCwp .

With regards
Srinvas.

Open the KML file in Google Earth

Under the left panel, you should be able to right click on the feature you want to export and select "Save Place As"

Make sure you change the file type from KMZ to KML as GMM won't work with a KMZ file.

Thanks Will, Yes I tried that before but how to generate a KML URL or LINK? Overlay accepts only URLs.

Gotta find a place to upload it to.

Maybe upload it to Google Maps under My Maps and see if it gives you a URL to use there? I've had mixed results with that approach, personally. I have my own web server to upload any KML I need to add.

Er, lemme be more specific. There's a link to download the KML file from a map under My Maps. See if that link can work as a URL.

Hmmm ok I'll try..I think we need a future enhancement here..Uploading KML temporarily or better a better way Google can think..Actually I brought this thread alive as I saw you answering KML related queries in the forum. Thanks a lot Will.

Post back if you have any success using MyMaps. I'd personally love to know if that approach works successfully or not.

And glad to help. :)

Hi Will,
I followed your suggestion and actually it did work. Please suggest any websites to upload KMLs and create links.
The only difficulty was, each time, a separate map has to be created containing single KML file. I Tried uploading two such KML in a map and tested but Map Maker Zooms out. In future Map Maker should have a facility to upload KML pack directly from computer and a facility to switch to individual KML locations contained in the pack.
Thanks for the suggestion.

With regards
Srinivas
